Dr. Christian Heywood is a California native with clinical interest in the prevention and treatment of sports injuries. He attended medical school at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he graduated with distinction. Dr. Heywood stayed at George Washington to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Following residency, Dr. Heywood completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. While at Kerlan-Jobe, he participated in the sideline and surgical management of athletes from the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks. In addition to professional team coverage, Dr. Heywood provided on-field coverage for USC, Fullerton College, and several Los Angeles area high-school football teams.
Dr. Heywood specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder and elbow. He also performs reconstructive procedures for both traumatic and degenerative joint disorders.
Since moving to Santa Cruz, Dr. Heywood has become involved in local youth athletics. In addition to covering Soquel High School Football, he has participated in pre-season physicals for multiple schools and athletic programs.
Dr. Heywood has a special interest in humanitarian projects. He has participated in medical missionary work in Honduras, Peru, and most recently Bolivia.
When he is not working, Dr. Heywood enjoys good food, good music and good surf.
